Hunnu Air plans to expand its network by modernizing its fleet of aircraft

According to MiddleAsianNews, Hunnu Air intends to develop its operations in Southeast Asia, India, and Central Asia, which has become possible due to the recent modernization of its fleet.

The Mongolian airline Hunnu Air aims to expand its network by updating its fleet, including E2-based aircraft.

According to Törbold Tserenhuu, head of the company's commercial department, Hunnu Air plans to open flights to Tashkent (Uzbekistan) this year and is actively considering launching regular routes to Delhi (India), as well as to Vietnam and the Philippines.

In an interview with FlightGlobal at the Singapore Airshow, Törbold Tserenhuu spoke about the latest Hunnu Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which was showcased in a static display.

Hunnu Air received its first E2 aircraft in May 2025, making it one of the most modern operators of this type in the region. In addition to two Embraer 190 aircraft, the company currently has two E195-E2s, each accommodating 136 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Törbold emphasizes the "high fuel efficiency and range" of the new models, allowing the airline to operate flights lasting over six hours.

Recently, Hunnu conducted one of the longest non-stop flights as part of the E2 project—a charter flight from Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) to Phu Quoc (Vietnam), which lasted 6 hours and 30 minutes.

The E2 aircraft also operate flights to China, including Daxing Airport in Beijing and Sanya in the south of the country, which is the airline's largest market.

Törbold notes the "geographical advantage" of Mongolia, located between China and Russia, as well as Central and East Asia.

This allows Hunnu to gradually develop a transit network between these regions, creating a sustainable demand for travel throughout the year. Törbold believes that the share of transit traffic is currently small but hopes for its increase in the future.

Hunnu began its operations in the early 2010s, operating flights between Mongolia and key airports in Asia with a small fleet of narrow-body Airbus aircraft. In 2015, the carrier changed its strategy, focusing on regional and short-haul routes.

Törbold also added that in the future, Hunnu is considering acquiring larger narrow-body aircraft, including Airbus models, in connection with plans to expand its network in the Middle East.
