Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was killed, according to the Libyan television channel Al Ahrar, during fighting in the area of the Hamada oil field. However, a source close to his family told Al Hadath that the incident occurred in the garden of his home located near the city of Ez-Zawiya, where four attackers fatally wounded him and fled the scene. According to Al Arabiya, before breaking into Gaddafi's residence, the assailants disabled the security cameras, and the shooting began around 2:30 AM. Some Libyan media, as reported by Al Hadath, link Saif's death to a conflict with the 444th Brigade, which is subordinate to the Government of National Unity of Libya. However, this brigade denied its involvement in the incident, stating that it was not present in the Ez-Zawiya area. Saif's political advisor, Abdallah Othman, confirmed his death via Facebook but did not provide further details. Saif al-Islam, the second son of Muammar Gaddafi, had long been an influential figure in Libya, although he held no official government positions. He initiated the creation of the "Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation" and was involved in negotiations for the release of hostages and diplomatic activities. After the overthrow and elimination of his father in 2011, Saif was detained and remained in custody until 2017. In 2011, the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest on two counts of crimes against humanity; however, Libya refused to extradite him. Later, Saif returned to politics and planned to participate in presidential elections in 2018 and 2021, which never took place. In 2021, the Libyan prosecutor's office issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with possible ties to Wagner Group militants.
