Emomali Rahmon congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as the Supreme Leader of Iran

In his congratulatory message, Rahmon expressed confidence that under Khamenei's leadership, the Iranian people would be able to overcome all the current difficulties faced by this friendly country.

The President also emphasized the significance of the Islamic Republic of Iran's role in maintaining peace and stability both in the region and in the world, and reaffirmed Tajikistan's commitment to adhering to international norms and principles in interstate relations.

In conclusion of his message, Rahmon noted Tajikistan's readiness for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Iran, based on trust and respect.

On March 9, Iran's Council of Experts, consisting of 88 influential theologians, elected Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the country. He is characterized as a "well-educated theologian and young thinker," possessing deep knowledge of political and social issues.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran pledged allegiance to the new leader and expressed readiness to follow his directives.

After Khamenei's election, the temporary council established after the death of Ali Khamenei ceased its activities, as reported by the official representative of the Guardian Council of Iran, Hadi Tahan Nazif. The temporary council was headed by Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and included the head of the judiciary Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei and Guardian Council member Alireza Arafi.

It is worth noting that the previous Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, was killed on the first day of a joint operation by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic.
