In Iran, the police have arrested 297 people involved in the riots, reports the state television and radio company IRIB, citing information from RIA Novosti.

According to the head of the police department for public safety, those detained are connected to protests supported by American and Israeli organizations.

Protests in the country began in late December 2025, triggered by a sharp decline in the value of the Iranian rial. Since January 8, following calls from Reza Pahlavi, the son of the overthrown Shah in 1979, the protests have gained momentum, and on the same day, the internet was shut down. In several cities, clashes with the police have become the norm, with protesters expressing dissatisfaction with the political regime.

There are reports of casualties among both protesters and security forces. Iranian authorities, accusing the U.S. and Israel of inciting the unrest, reported on January 12 that the situation is under control.
