Amid large-scale protests accompanied by internet access restrictions and disruptions in public transportation, the U.S. State Department strongly advises its citizens to leave Iran. This information is published on the official website of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran here.

Americans are advised to consider alternative means of communication in advance and, if possible, to leave the country through land borders with Turkey, Armenia, or Turkmenistan.

The State Department also adds: "If you are unable to leave the country, try to find a safe place in your home or another secure building. Ensure you have a supply of food, water, medications, and other necessary items."

U.S. citizens with dual nationality are recommended to use their Iranian passport for departure, as Tehran does not recognize American citizenship.

It is important to note that there are no diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Iran; Swiss diplomats represent U.S. interests in the country.

Additionally, it has been reported that the auxiliary diplomatic staff of the French Embassy in Tehran has also left the country due to the protests.

Protests against the Iranian government have been ongoing for more than two weeks.

According to the human rights organization IHRNGO, the number of fatalities among protesters is at least 648, but it is difficult to establish the exact number of victims due to internet outages.

According to the latest data, protests have been recorded in 585 locations across the country, covering 186 cities and 31 provinces, with the total number of detainees exceeding 10,000.

It should be noted that there has been no internet access in Iran for more than three days. Mass protests, triggered by an economic crisis and the devaluation of the national currency, have been ongoing since late December 2025.
