- In Kyiv, there is still a shortage of heating following attacks on energy infrastructure by Russia. As of January 22, the city's mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that about 3,000 residential high-rise buildings remain without heat. Emergency power outages continue in the capital.
- According to Tatiana Moskalkova, the Human Rights Commissioner in Russia, at least 524 people have died as a result of Ukrainian operations in the Kursk region, including bodies found in mass graves since August 6, 2024.
- A meeting took place in Davos between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, which lasted less than an hour and received positive feedback from both sides.
- U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner held talks with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. The negotiations, which also involved the new advisor of the "Peace Council," Josh Grünbaum, lasted about 3.5 hours. Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s aide, described the meetings as "constructive" and confirmed that Russia will continue its operation until a political settlement is reached.
- In the UAE, trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. are planned, which, according to Volodymyr Zelensky, will take place from Friday to Saturday. The Ukrainian delegation will include high-profile officials, including the head of the president's office Kyrylo Budanov and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov. The Russian delegation will be headed by the head of the GRU Igor Kostyukov with representatives from the Ministry of Defense.
- In his speech at the forum in Davos, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Europe should more actively enhance its military capabilities and not rely solely on U.S. support.
- French and British naval forces detained the tanker Grinch in the Mediterranean Sea, suspected of using a false flag and coming from Murmansk.
- As a result of an attack on Kryvyi Rih, 11 people were injured, including three children.
- A trial has begun in Vienna against Egisto Otta, a former employee of the Austrian Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, suspected of espionage in favor of Russia. He is accused of treason and threats to Austria's security, as well as abuse of office and bribery.
