Russia struck Ukraine with 'Oreshnik' in response to the attack on Putin's residence, - Russian Ministry of Defense

On the night of Friday, January 9, the Russian armed forces conducted a large-scale attack using precision-guided weapons from land and sea bases on key facilities in Ukraine. This strike was a response to a recent attempt by Ukrainian forces to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region, as reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

In the operation, medium-range "Oreshnik" missiles were used, among other weapons. As a result, facilities related to drone production and energy infrastructure that directly support the Ukrainian defense industry were hit.

The Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that such "terrorist actions" from Kyiv would not go unanswered and stated that all objectives had been achieved.

At the same time, Ukrainian authorities reported a powerful combined strike on the Lviv and Kyiv regions that same night. According to media reports, the strike targeted the Bilche-Volytsko-Uherske underground gas storage facility. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed damage to critical infrastructure, while Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported hits on three major thermal power plants, leading to a blackout in the city.

The Air Command "West" of the Ukrainian Air Force also noted that a ballistic missile strike was carried out on infrastructure facilities in Lviv, with a speed reaching 13,000 km/h.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported that on December 29, Ukraine attempted to attack Putin's residence using drones. This attack involved 91 drones, all of which were shot down.
