In Kyiv, nearly half of the apartment buildings (about six thousand) have been left without heating due to damage to critical infrastructure as a result of a Russian attack, reported the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko.

Additionally, the capital is also experiencing interruptions in water supply, he added, emphasizing that city services are operating under emergency conditions.

Klitschko characterized the Russian combined attack on Kyiv that occurred on the night of January 9 as the "most painful" for critical infrastructure facilities. He urged those Kyiv residents who have the opportunity to temporarily leave the city, where alternative sources of heat and power are available.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that emergency outages have been introduced on the left bank of Kyiv and in some areas of the region, while on the right bank, hourly outage schedules are being implemented. Later, the energy company DTEK clarified that due to the consequences of the attack and overloads in the electrical networks throughout the city, emergency outages are in effect. As a result, 417 thousand families were left without electricity in the Desnyansky, Dniprovsky, Darnytsky, and Holosiivskyi districts.

Furthermore, the absence of water and heating has been recorded in the committee of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by people's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

On the night of January 9, Russian troops launched an attack on Kyiv using drones and missiles, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to more than 20. President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the building of the Qatari embassy was damaged during the attack. On the same night, Russia also struck the Lviv region with a "Shahed" drone, targeting a gas storage facility — one of the largest in Europe.
