On the night of December 26, Trust Wallet users faced a serious problem: their crypto wallet became the victim of a hacking attack, resulting in the loss of over 7 million dollars. The hacking attack specifically affected version 2.68 of the Chrome browser extension, while other versions and the mobile app remained untouched.

Binance founder and head of YZi Labs, which manages Trust Wallet, Changpeng Zhao, urged users of the browser version 2.68 to immediately disable or uninstall it and then install the updated version 2.69.

Trust Wallet promised to reimburse all incurred losses. After the incident, the value of the native token TWT temporarily fell by 7 percent but soon regained its position, trading at around $0.83.

According to preliminary data, malicious code was embedded in the 2.68 browser extension, which intercepted users' secret phrases during wallet import and transmitted them to the attackers. Changpeng Zhao suggested that the hack could have been orchestrated by an insider.
