The procedure for obtaining injections explained by the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund

Citizens often contact the hotline of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (MHIF) with questions about why it is impossible to receive injections, both intravenous and intramuscular, in the evening at any medical organization, including emergency services.

In response to these inquiries, the MHIF clarifies how planned medical assistance is provided.

The fund explained that emergency medical assistance is intended solely for emergencies. Emergency teams cannot perform the functions of a procedural room and are not authorized to administer injections based on family doctor prescriptions, unless it is related to the patient's critical condition.

As for hospitals, medical assistance is provided only to patients who are undergoing treatment. Emergency departments are intended for those who require urgent or planned hospitalization. On-duty doctors and nurses cannot administer injections to citizens who are not hospitalized.

Thus, the actions of medical organizations in such situations are lawful.

The MHIF also reminds that there are day hospitals in Family Medicine Centers (FMC) where patients can receive necessary procedures, including injections and infusions.

It is important to follow the established procedure for obtaining these services:

A citizen must be registered with the FMC and undergo a consultation with a family doctor, who, if there are indications, can prescribe treatment and issue a referral to the day hospital.

Insured citizens are entitled to a 50% discount on medical procedures, while citizens without mandatory health insurance pay the full cost of services at the clinic's cash desk.

The day hospital does not provide medications, syringes, or infusion systems.

The MHIF urges citizens to take these rules of medical institutions into account and to plan the receipt of procedures in advance through their treating physician.

For any questions related to obtaining medical services under the State Guarantees Program, you can contact the MHIF hotline at 113. The call is free.
