President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 25% customs duty on the import of semiconductors. This information is posted on the official White House website.

According to the bulletin, the new duties will specifically affect chips such as the Nvidia H200 and AMD MI325. However, there are a number of exceptions, for instance, for semiconductors intended for expanding the country's production capacity, scientific research, and use in data centers.

The document also emphasizes that to date, the U.S. is only able to produce about 10 percent of the total volume of necessary semiconductors, which creates a significant dependence on foreign supplies and poses a threat to national security.

Additionally, the Axios portal reports that as a result of the duty's introduction, Nvidia, which previously received permission to export chips manufactured in Taiwan to China, will now have to pay the import duty before shipping.
