According to Prelyasko, cases of Nipah virus transmission from person to person are rare. According to RIA Novosti, transmission has only been recorded in a limited number of cases, usually within families where there was close contact with the bodily fluids of the infected patient.
Features of Virus Transmission
The Nipah virus is a zoonosis, and its main carriers are bats. Infection in humans primarily occurs due to direct contact with infected animals or through the consumption of contaminated products.
Fabrizio Prelyasko noted that cases of person-to-person transmission have only been recorded under exceptional circumstances, where close contact with the bodily fluids of the sick person was observed.
Lack of Effective Treatment and Vaccine
The virologist also emphasized that currently there is no certified vaccine or specialized medication for the treatment of the Nipah virus. Treatment is limited to supportive therapy, similar to that used for viral encephalitis, and the disease has a high mortality rate.
