According to the head of state, the launch of this hydroelectric power station will open up opportunities for Kyrgyzstan to export electricity.
“Soon, with the commissioning of the HPP, our republic will be able to start exporting electricity,” Japarov noted.
He also emphasized that the equipment at many hydroelectric power stations in the republic has not undergone complete modernization for a long time and has continued to operate since its construction in the 1950s-1970s.
“At these stations, the equipment has been functioning since the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and no full-scale modernization has been carried out. Nevertheless, the equipment has been operating continuously for over half a century. When I came to power, the technical condition of energy facilities was extremely difficult,” the president added.
Japarov noted that over the past four years, large-scale reconstruction has been carried out at energy facilities. In particular, four units at the Toktogul HPP have been completely updated, which has allowed its capacity to increase by 240 MW.
“This is essentially equivalent to the construction of a new HPP with a capacity of 240 MW,” he explained.
In addition, the president reported on the construction and commissioning of 28 new small HPPs in the country. He emphasized that timely measures taken helped prevent an energy crisis and restrictions on the economy.
“If such prompt systemic decisions had not been made, the country would inevitably have faced an energy crisis, which would have severely limited the economy. Now the Toktogul HPP can operate for another 50-60 years without the need for repairs,” the president concluded.
