Bishkek's grocery basket as of January 31. What has increased in price the most
Over the past week, there has been a rise in prices for potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, sugar, and milk in Bishkek. At the same time, bread, onions, cabbage, and bananas have become cheaper.

As a result, the minimum cost of the grocery basket has increased by 86 soms, totaling 7,018 soms.

We conduct weekly monitoring of prices for a fixed set of products in the same supermarket. Below is detailed information about the composition of our basket and the reasons for price changes.

It should be noted that prices in supermarkets and markets can vary significantly, and stores often have promotions on certain products.

Since the beginning of our research in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,748 soms. Since the beginning of this year, it has risen by 295 soms, and compared to the same period in 2025, it has increased by 962 soms.

The lowest price in our basket is recorded for bread. Fresh vegetables and fruits have the most significant impact on the overall cost, as they are the most common cause of price fluctuations.

Throughout 2025, the basket has increased in price by 686 soms. The minimum cost was recorded on October 18 at 5,791 soms, while the maximum price was recorded on December 6 at 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for citizens of Kyrgyzstan were approved by the government back in 2009. According to this document, each citizen should consume nine different products per month.

The approved list includes: 9 kg of bread, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Considering the minimum standards set by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of Bishkek's supermarkets. Recently, many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.

Of course, the calculations are based on average figures and are based on approved state norms. Not all families eat the same way and in the same quantities; some may not consume meat at all, while others may not like sugar. Therefore, our basket should not be perceived as absolute truth — it is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.

Bread products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is average, so we prefer apples and bananas among fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes among vegetables. We excluded unnecessary products, leaving only the essentials.
