Erlan Abdyldaev reported that the largest number of ethnic Kyrgyz is concentrated in the Jergital district — about 20,000 people. Approximately 11,000 live in Murghab, around 3,000 in the Sughd region, 500 in Dushanbe, and the same number in Khaton.
The ambassador also noted that in 2022, the operation of the "Kyrgyz koomu" association was suspended in Tajikistan, and efforts are currently underway to restore it. "When the Prime Minister of Tajikistan visited Kyrgyzstan, we raised this issue. He promised to resolve it," Abdyldaev added.
According to him, during Sadyr Japarov's visit to Tajikistan, an initiative was proposed to build two schools for ethnic Kyrgyz, as they are in urgent need of educational institutions.
Additionally, he reported that the ministries of education of both countries are working on the issue of providing educational materials in the Kyrgyz language for ethnic Kyrgyz.
