In the Batken region, in the city of Kadamjay, there are more than 15 thousand residents.

The city is located along the Ak-Suu River and was established on September 27, 2012, in accordance with the law of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 168. It includes the settlement of Kadamjay and the villages of Pulgon, Tashkyya, and Chaltash, which were previously part of the Orozbekov rural district.

The key economic entity of the city is the Kadamjay Antimony Plant, which has additional production sites operating on its premises.

Kadamjay is also known for its outstanding personalities. Among them are the Hero of Socialist Labor Aziz Toktobaev, Ivan Kretinin, labor and war veteran Abdinabi Samatov, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR Zamira Tuygunova, honored figure of industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, analytical chemist, holder of the "Dank" order Anipa Alymova, Major General of Justice Aitmatova Tursunay, and honored doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic Osmonova Farida.

The name "Kadamjay" has ancient roots. According to legend, 1400 years ago, Azret-Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, came here to perform prayers. It is said that the stone beneath him became soft, leaving an imprint, which gave the name to this place — "Sacred Footprint."

Kadamjay has historically been located on trade routes connecting Fergana, Syr Darya, and the Alay passes.

On December 22, 1930, as a result of an administrative reform in the Osh region, 24 districts were created, including the Kyzyl-Kiy district with its center in the village of Uch-Korgon.

On April 1, 1937, the district was renamed Molotovsky, and in 1938, the Khalmion district was separated from it. On October 19, 1940, the district was named Frunze. In 1959, after the dissolution of the Uch-Korgon district, part of it was annexed to Frunze.

On March 15, 1991, the district council restored its historical name.

According to the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic dated March 6, 1992, the Frunze district was renamed Kadamjay.

The first mentions of Kadamjay date back to 1936 when it was founded as a settlement for metallurgists at the antimony plant, and in 1941 it received the status of a workers' settlement under the name Frunze.

After Kyrgyzstan gained independence, the settlement of Frunze was renamed Kadamjay by the decision of the Kadamjay district council.
