How the children of the woman who committed self-immolation at Issyk-Kul live – a human rights check

On February 26, employees of the Ombudsman Institute visited the four children of the woman who committed self-immolation at Issyk-Kul. This was reported in a press release from the agency.

Recall that in the Ak-Suu district, the woman set herself on fire after learning about her 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy.

According to human rights activists, the family lives in the Ak-Suu district. The pregnant girl is the eldest of the children; she studies at a vocational college. She has two younger sisters, aged 15 and 6, and a brother who is 14 years old.

The family was registered as low-income. The mother, M.A., had been receiving child benefits since 2018.

According to local authorities, last year, with the help of charitable organizations, a house was built for the family. The village council also provided financial support, as the woman was alone and raising her children after the divorce.

Currently, the children's guardian is the mother's elder sister. The issue of formal guardianship will be resolved soon.

The pregnant minor girl is also with family. The police are conducting an investigation based on her testimony.

In the Ombudsman Institute, it was noted that the head of the agency, Jamila Dzhamanbaeva, is closely monitoring the situation with the minor M.Z., who finds herself in difficult circumstances.

She also demands an objective investigation into her mother's case and to clarify all the circumstances of her death.

The Ombudsman calls on state authorities to implement comprehensive measures to protect the rights of the deceased woman's children and provide them with social assistance.
