On the air of "Birinchi Radio," the head of the Department of Education and Extracurricular Activities of the Ministry of Education, Altynbek Erkimbekov, discussed how school uniforms should look in Kyrgyzstan.

Recall that Deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed to relax the requirements for school uniforms, pointing out that in most educational institutions, the focus is on appearance rather than the content of education. He urged the Ministry of Education and the Cabinet of Ministers to allow institutions to review the norms regarding clothing or to develop relevant documents themselves.

Erkimbekov noted: "The school uniform in Kyrgyzstan should be designed in a classic style. This is due to several factors: firstly, it is a requirement of regulatory acts; secondly, it helps maintain discipline and a business atmosphere; and thirdly, it ensures equality among students. According to the resolution, the uniform must correspond to a classic style, taking into account weather conditions and the temperature regime in educational premises." He added that parents, students, experts, and representatives of the public were involved in developing the norms for school uniforms.

For boys, the uniform includes a shirt, vest, trousers, and jacket made in solid colors (black, gray, dark blue, or burgundy). For girls, the uniform consists of a blouse, vest, skirt, trousers, dress, apron, and jacket, which can be made from solid fabric or checked patterns. Acceptable colors for girls' shirts are white, light gray, light blue, and light beige.

He also emphasized that it is unreasonable to force parents from socially vulnerable groups to purchase the uniform set by the school. In such cases, a combination of "light top and dark bottom" is allowed.

Erkimbekov added that analyzing the experience of other countries has shown that abolishing the classic style can lead to social inequality, an increase in disciplinary conflicts, and the emergence of inappropriate clothing. This can also weaken the sense of unity in the school and cause anxiety among adolescents due to fashion pressure. Many countries have not completely abolished uniforms but have implemented more flexible models.

The official also noted that the ministry does not have information that any schools have suggested that parents buy uniforms from specific manufacturers to ensure that students look identical.

According to Erkimbekov, the ministry is analyzing parents' opinions, and most of them support the classic style in school clothing. Experts also emphasize the importance of adhering to this style.
