According to information provided by the department, the requirements for school uniforms in Kyrgyzstan were established in accordance with a government decree adopted on August 12, 2015, number 572. This document defines uniform standards for school clothing, taking into account climatic conditions and temperature regimes in educational institutions.
“When developing the requirements, parents, students, and experts participated. For boys, the uniform includes a shirt, vest, trousers, and jacket in solid colors such as black, gray, dark blue, and burgundy. Girls are offered a blouse, vest, skirt, trousers, dress, apron, and jacket, made either in a solid version or in a check pattern, with acceptable light tones for shirts,” the ministry representatives clarified.
According to the department's opinion, it is unreasonable to require socially vulnerable families to purchase uniforms of a strictly defined model — an option with “a light top and dark bottom” is allowed.
Earlier, deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed the opinion that there is a need to abandon strict uniform standards in educational institutions.
“I receive numerous complaints, especially from the regions, regarding the discomfort of such clothing for children. In summer, it becomes hot, and in winter — cold. It is uncomfortable to move in such clothing in urban traffic jams. We are creating problems for schoolchildren. In some countries, such as China, children are allowed to wear sportswear in school. Studies show that this is indeed convenient. I am not calling for a complete abolition of school uniforms to avoid children appearing in rags. But I suggest that the government reconsider the clothing requirements and allow students to wear more comfortable clothing, such as sweaters, t-shirts, and jeans, that is, in a casual style,” the parliamentarian noted.
