This issue was raised on March 12 during a coordination meeting dedicated to law enforcement and security matters.
The agenda of the meeting also included discussions on supporting entrepreneurship and preventing domestic violence, during which the issue of accommodating women affected by violence was brought up.
Participants noted that women who become victims of domestic violence sometimes go to their relatives, but they are not always able to settle there on a permanent basis. As a result, they have to return home and face violence again. The previously existing crisis center, where victims were temporarily accommodated, has closed.
The prosecutor of the Jalal-Abad region, Turusbek Ishenaliev, raised the issue of the lack of crisis centers and specifically emphasized the need for their establishment to local authorities.
“There is not a single crisis center for women in our region. The previously functioning center, created with the support of international projects, has also closed. In each district and city, at least one crisis center with 3-4 beds should be opened. Such centers should have psychologists and lawyers who can provide the necessary assistance. The possibility of employment for women should also be considered. If a woman needs separate housing but does not have it, she is forced to return to the previous environment, which only exacerbates conflicts. It is important to take such consequences into account. I hope local authorities will consider this when forming the budget,” he noted.
- In 2019, the "Kaniyet" crisis center was opened in Manas, which accepted women and children, but its activities are currently suspended.
