The Honorary Consulate of Montenegro has opened in Bishkek
Two key events in Kyrgyz-Montenegrin relations took place in Bishkek: official negotiations and the opening of the honorary consulate.

During the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev and his Montenegrin counterpart Ervin Ibrahimovic, who visited the country for the first time on an official visit, important issues were discussed.

During the negotiations, Kulubaev shared with Ibrahimovic information about large-scale political and economic reforms in Kyrgyzstan aimed at sustainable development and creating a favorable climate for investment. In particular, emphasis was placed on significant projects such as the construction of the railway from China to Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan and the "Kambar-Ata-1" hydropower plant.

Speaking about bilateral cooperation, the ministers noted that both countries are mountainous and dynamically developing states with abundant water resources and high tourism potential. They discussed partnership opportunities in hydroenergy, the "green" economy, and active experience exchange in tourism.

The discussion of institutional strengthening of relations became an important part of the negotiations. The parties agreed to expand cooperation at the government level, develop inter-parliamentary dialogue, and improve the legal framework.

The importance of a joint mountain agenda, as well as cooperation in climate change adaptation and environmental protection, was emphasized.

In this context, the Kyrgyz side invited their Montenegrin colleagues to participate in the VI World Nomad Games and the second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25".

One of the outcomes of the meeting was the signing of a cooperation program between the foreign ministries of both countries for 2026–2027, as well as a memorandum of cooperation in the training of diplomatic personnel.

On the same day, a ceremony was held in Bishkek to open the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro, headed by Beknazar Asanov.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Abakirov, noted that there is much in common between the two countries — mountains and clear skies, which creates a foundation for cooperation and mutual understanding.

In his speech, Ervin Ibrahimovic emphasized the significance of his visit and expressed hope for further development of bilateral dialogue.

“Montenegro has a clear vision of its development after 20 years of independence. We strive to strengthen global stability and are interested in establishing new connections in the fields of tourism, energy, and agriculture,” he noted.

He also noted that in recent years, relations between Kyrgyzstan and Montenegro have significantly developed.

“We have had constructive discussions both in official meetings and in informal settings. It is necessary to strengthen economic cooperation and friendship between our peoples,” the minister added.

Beknazar Asanov, the honorary consul, emphasized the significance of the consulate's opening and expressed gratitude for the trust:

“Montenegro is known for its mountains and sea, while Kyrgyzstan is known for the majestic Tian Shan and Lake Issyk-Kul. These natural riches shape the unique culture and character of our peoples.”
