Mattel, the company known for its Barbie dolls, has introduced a new model that exhibits characteristics of autism spectrum disorder. This was reported by BBC News.

The new Barbie has a slightly off-center gaze and wears noise-canceling headphones. These devices are not just a trendy accessory — they help the doll calm down during moments when she is sensitive to surrounding sounds. Additionally, she has a spinner and a tablet that serve as means of alternative and augmentative communication, allowing her to express her thoughts without words.

The doll is dressed in a loose-fitting dress and flat-soled shoes.

The creation of this Barbie was made possible through collaboration with the non-profit organization ASAN, which advocates for the rights of people with autism.

This is not Mattel's first attempt to introduce dolls with special features: previous models have included a blind Barbie, a Barbie with Down syndrome, and a Barbie living with type 1 diabetes.

This new line of dolls aims to help children and their parents better understand the diversity of norms and characteristics.
