In Kyrgyzstan, domestic responsibilities, as shown by the National Statistics Committee's study "Time Budget Survey," are mainly assigned to women.

According to statistical data, women spend an average of about 4 hours and 40 minutes per day on household chores, which accounts for more than 19.4 percent of their total time. At the same time, men dedicate significantly less time to this activity, only about 3.8 percent, which is equivalent to less than one hour a day.

It is worth noting that in rural areas, both men and women spend 1.2 times more time on domestic tasks compared to urban residents. For instance, working women in villages spend an average of 6.5 hours a day on household duties, while in cities, they spend about 5 hours. Men in rural areas spend about 50 minutes on this, while in cities, they spend approximately 35 minutes.

Furthermore, the nature of domestic labor differs significantly between men and women. Men, regardless of their place of residence, are more likely to engage in repairs of household appliances and housing, which constitutes about 11 percent of domestic labor in cities and up to 30 percent in villages. They also actively participate in grocery shopping, spending between 15 to 23 percent of their time on it.

In contrast, women's household responsibilities are more diverse and depend on their place of residence, family composition, and employment level. In urban settings, working women spend about 9 percent of their time on shopping for goods, while the remaining 91 percent is dedicated to various household chores. The most time-consuming tasks include cooking (30 percent), caring for children and grandchildren (17 percent), cleaning (14 percent), washing dishes (10 percent), and laundry (10 percent).

In rural areas, working women spend about 6 percent of their time on shopping for goods, while 94 percent is devoted to household responsibilities. Cooking takes up about 28 percent of their time, caring for children and grandchildren takes 15 percent, cleaning the home takes 14 percent, washing dishes takes 13 percent, and laundry and ironing take 12 percent.

Among working citizens, the most time spent on household chores is by men aged 35–44 and over 60, as well as women aged 14 to 34.
