Chyngyz Aitmatov's sister addressed the public

She spoke about the events in Osh in the 90s, the writer's views on Islam, and the elections of Askar Akayev

Roza Aitmatova, sister of Chyngyz Aitmatov and a distinguished worker of education of the Kyrgyz Republic, addressed a wide audience in response to the rumors and accusations against her brother that have appeared online.

In her address, she expressed serious concern about the numerous unfounded accusations and urged not to use the writer's name in political disputes and public conflicts.

According to her, attempts to link Chyngyz Aitmatov to the events in Osh in the 1990s and accusations of his alleged one-sided political stance are baseless. She reminded that during that period the writer was in Moscow, met with the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, and secured a promise to prevent the introduction of troops into Kyrgyzstan, which helped avert serious clashes in the region.

Regarding the election of Askar Akayev as president, Roza noted that this decision was made by the deputies of the Supreme Council in the absence of Aitmatov in the country.

Speaking about the Kyrgyz language, Roza Aitmatova emphasized that Chyngyz began writing his works in his native language, being fluent in it. The transition to the Russian language became a necessary measure due to pressure from the Soviet authorities in the late 1950s, when the poet Alexander Tvardovsky helped the writer by offering publications in the magazine "Novy Mir".

Roza also noted that their family has always respected religious traditions, and her brother treated Islam with reverence, observing the main rituals and sincerely believing in God.

“We need to maintain unity and not succumb to provocations. The spread of rumors only brings discord. We should neither glorify nor vilify him. May Chyngyz Aitmatov rest in peace,” she concluded.
