According to the publication, Denis was born in Pavlodar, spent his childhood in Ekibastuz, and then returned to Pavlodar. For the last four years before his adventure, he lived in Almaty. Bicycling became a part of his life more than ten years ago, and since then he has gradually increased the distances of his rides.
The idea of traveling to Everest came to him in winter, after a long break from serious travels. “I wanted something truly exciting, not just a regular hike,” he said in an interview with the publication.
Denis considered numerous routes in Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, but none of them evoked the emotions he was looking for. Ultimately, he decided that Everest would be his final destination. He spent about six months preparing for this journey.
His route stretched for thousands of kilometers and covered six countries:
- Kazakhstan — the starting point;
- Kyrgyzstan — a complete crossing of the country;
- Tajikistan — the highest section of the Pamir Highway in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region;
- China — a brief section;
- Pakistan — the entire Karakoram Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan;
- India and Nepal — the final part of the route.
For most of the time, Denis rode alone and felt quite comfortable, but by the end of the journey, he realized his limits.
“At first, I enjoyed the solitude, but closer to the end of the journey, I reached my limit. The emotions were mixed: excitement from reaching Everest and a slight feeling of emptiness from having achieved the goal,” he shared his impressions.
