Member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani, representing France, expressed sharp discontent with the actions of the European Union regarding Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing the need to consider the unique circumstances of this country and its geopolitical situation.
He reminded that Kyrgyzstan became the first state in Central Asia to receive the status of "democratic partner" from the Council of Europe. "Why has Kyrgyzstan suddenly come under critical assessments? Could it be because former President Almazbek Atambayev is in exile in Spain? I wonder if this is really the case? Kyrgyzstan has indeed become the first country in Central Asia to be awarded such status," he noted.

Mariani added that, although Kyrgyzstan is not perfect, its situation compared to other states in the region looks satisfactory. "Elections are held in Kyrgyzstan, and international observers have the opportunity to monitor the processes. The government of the country, represented by President Sadyr Japarov, has already received your delegation. How many more heads of state are ready to discuss such issues with you?" he posed a rhetorical question.

He also pointed out existing problems but noted that Kyrgyzstan is moving towards strengthening its state institutions and forming a national identity while maintaining ties with Russia. "If 2 million Kyrgyz are returned from Russia, are we ready to accept them in Europe? I am not against giving advice, but we should not forget about the geopolitical reality," Mariani added.

According to him, President Japarov enjoys significant support among the people, which may provoke envy among European leaders. He is actively fighting organized crime, which is important for the stability of the state.
"We should extend a hand to Kyrgyzstan. You have fulfilled your task and, I believe, are satisfied with the results. Let’s discuss specific issues and continue our cooperation. Stigmatization can only worsen the situation and alienate Kyrgyzstan from us," concluded the deputy.
