The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is actively discussing his successor with close associates. He is currently considering the candidacies of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to the Axios portal.

According to the publication, Trump is increasingly contemplating a potential tandem of these politicians and is interested in the opinions of his advisors on this matter.

“Trump's idea for 2028 is a Vance-Rubio tandem, with Vance in the lead position. However, if the tandem consisted of Rubio and Vance, Trump would be quite satisfied,” said one of his advisors, with whom Trump recently shared his thoughts on the future leadership of the Republican Party.

The portal also points out that Vance has a team of political advisors who could form the foundation of his campaign if he decides to run for president in 2028. At the same time, Rubio lacks such support, but he has expressed his willingness to back Vance should he decide to run.

“If JD Vance decides to run for president, I will be one of the first to support him,” Rubio noted in an interview in 2025.

However, Trump’s advisors report that the president will not rush into choosing a successor in order to avoid distracting his team from current tasks and to prevent the impression of losing control.

At the end of January, Trump stated that the Republican Party has many worthy candidates capable of continuing his legacy in the 2028 elections. Among them, he highlighted Vance, Rubio, and Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.

Previously, Trump also emphasized that Vance is likely to become the Republican Party's candidate in the upcoming elections.
