Ermurat Bapi, a deputy of the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan, proposed to legally restrict the ability of certain former high-ranking officials, including the ex-president and ministers, to travel abroad. He announced this on his social media page, publishing a corresponding post.

The deputy noted that the main goal of this proposal is to ensure security in the country. As an example, he cited international experience and mentioned similar measures in place in China.

It should be emphasized that this proposal arose against the backdrop of the recent meeting between the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, in the Kremlin. The press service of the Russian president briefly reported on the visit but did not disclose details of the negotiations.

This was already the second meeting between Nazarbayev and Putin in the current year of 2025; the first took place in May. At that time, the press secretary of the first president of Kazakhstan, Aidos Ukibai, mentioned that such meetings are a norm of international practice and reflect the personal connections that have developed over years of public service.
