At a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, Mikhail Fedorov was appointed as the Minister of Defense. This decision was supported by 277 members of parliament, reports "Meduza".

Fedorov promised to implement reforms in the training system for Ukrainian servicemen, emphasizing that quality training leads to a reduction in losses and an increase in efficiency. He also noted that it is necessary to address the issues that have accumulated in the TCC system and, after conducting a comprehensive audit, propose systemic solutions to enhance the country's defense capabilities.

Previously, the position of Minister of Defense was held by Denis Shmyhal, a former prime minister, who had been in this role for six months since July 2025. In early 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his intention to "change the format of the Ministry of Defense's work," proposing to head the agency Mikhail Fedorov, who had previously been responsible for digital transformation.
