Yesterday, January 21, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the USA, Aibek Moldogaziev, held a meeting with John Pommershaime, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asia. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, key aspects of Kyrgyz-American partnership were discussed, as well as the upcoming business forum "B5+1," which will take place on February 4-5 in Bishkek.

An important point of discussion was the new visa requirements introduced by the US administration for citizens of Kyrgyzstan regarding obtaining B-1/B-2 visas, as well as the temporary suspension of immigration visas.

Moldogaziev expressed concern that such measures could negatively affect travel for citizens of both countries and reduce activity in business and tourism. He suggested considering the possibility of finding mutually acceptable solutions that would help minimize the negative consequences for bilateral relations.

Pommershaime, in turn, explained that the measures introduced are part of the US policy to combat illegal immigration and confirmed the readiness for further discussion on this issue.

For reference, starting from January 21 of this year, citizens of Kyrgyzstan applying for non-immigrant B-1 (for business trips) and B-2 (for tourism) visas must pay a deposit ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.
