The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Meder Abakirov, raised the issue of visa restrictions during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Leslie Viguerie. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Kyrgyz side expressed concern about the introduction of new conditions for obtaining B-1/B-2 visas, which they believe complicate travel for citizens and negatively affect the development of trade and economic relations.

During the negotiations, the preparation for the "B5+1" forum, scheduled for February 4-5, 2026, in Bishkek, was also discussed. Participants addressed organizational matters, the event's agenda, and its role in strengthening cooperation in the region.

Additionally, the parties exchanged views on current issues in Kyrgyz-American relations and their future development.

The U.S. Ambassador noted that the tightening of visa requirements is not directed against Kyrgyzstan and is due to general immigration policies and compliance with U.S. visa legislation.

The parties agreed to further cooperation to seek acceptable solutions aimed at improving travel conditions for citizens of both countries and resolving the visa situation.
