Starting from January 1, 2026, all foreign citizens wishing to visit Georgia must comply with new rules, which will require the possession of a valid medical insurance policy and accident insurance for the entire duration of their stay in the country.
This measure was introduced in accordance with Georgian legislation in the field of tourism and applies to trips for both tourist and business or private purposes, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
The policy can be obtained from both local and foreign insurance companies and must be provided in paper or electronic format in Georgian or English.
The minimum amount of insurance coverage must be at least 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL). The document must include the following information:
- parties to the contract;
- territory of validity;
- subject of insurance;
- start and end dates of validity;
- insurance risks;
- amount of insurance compensation;
- amount of insurance premium;
- place and conditions of payment.
In light of the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan urges citizens planning trips to Georgia to familiarize themselves with the new rules in advance and to consider possible additional requirements from carriers and border services. It is recommended to obtain medical insurance before the start of the trip and to have all documents in paper form, as they may be required when crossing the border.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasizes the importance of complying with migration legislation, including the possession of a valid insurance policy, a valid foreign passport, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation booking.
