At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on April 8, Prosecutor General Maksat Asanaliev reported that currently, 12 individuals have been in pre-trial detention for an extended period. This information was in response to a question from Deputy Dastan Bekeshev, who inquired about the number of individuals held in pre-trial detention for over a year without their cases being submitted to court.

Asanaliev explained that this refers to those whose cases are at the stage of judicial proceedings. He noted that detention is a necessary measure applied to those accused of particularly serious crimes to prevent the possibility of committing new offenses and to avoid escape. "Currently, there are 12 such individuals," he added.

Additionally, Deputy Bekeshev raised the issue of arrests in criminal cases that may have no time limits, including property seizures that citizens cannot contest.

The Prosecutor General agreed that such situations do occur and noted that arrests can last for years, and in some cases, decades, even after the dissolution of the bodies that imposed these restrictions. "We monitor every appeal, conduct audits, and I hope that this process will be completed this year," concluded Asanaliev.
