A resident of the Aiyl district of the Aitmatov region in the Talas region, Syimyk Bakir uulu, is engaged in breeding pedigree cows.

In a conversation with a Turmush correspondent, he shared that initially they tried to keep various types of livestock on their farm — horses, sheep, bulls, and others. “But it turned out that breeding pedigree cows was the most convenient for us. The advantage of pedigree livestock is that they are purebred animals: they are taller, produce more milk, and compared to local livestock, they bring more profit. If we compare, one pedigree cow produces more milk than two or three ordinary ones.

Calves are also sold at a higher price and grow faster. It is said that even at birth, a calf is similar in size to a local two-month-old. They mature early and can calve by the age of two. There are indeed many benefits, which is why we are establishing a farm for breeding pedigree livestock,” the farmer says.

According to Syimyk Bakir uulu, the price of such cows depends on their height and weight. On average, the cost is 260,000–270,000 soms. “We keep Holstein-Friesian (Holstein) cows. This is a dairy breed: they produce very large volumes of milk and are large animals themselves. At the same time, the animals are quite delicate and require good care. The difference with local cows is very significant. Our local cows can graze in the pasture, but pedigree cows do not always adapt well to that.

Due to their large size, they sometimes find it difficult to graze properly. Therefore, we feed them silage, hay, barley, wheat, and compound feed, as well as provide special vitamins to strengthen their immunity. We are keeping such cows for the first time now, so we haven't fully prepared. Starting next year, we plan to prepare feed in advance and stock up on enough grain and hay,” the villager reported.

Bakir uulu says that the family had been considering breeding pedigree livestock for three years. “As part of the state program for the development of pedigree animal husbandry, we secured a loan at 3% and established a farm. To acquire the animals, we first traveled to the Russian city of Saratov: we visited farms that breed such cows, but the terms of the contract did not suit us. After that, we made an agreement with a local farming enterprise,” he explained.
