The recent elections for the position of president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) concluded with the election of Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, who also serves as the president of the Qatar Olympic Committee. This event took place during the 46th General Assembly of the OCA held in Tashkent.
After his election, Sheikh Joaan emphasized that Asia is the largest and most diverse continent in the Olympic family. He noted that this diversity is a significant strength of the region. In his opinion, unity based on respect and adherence to Olympic values will allow this diversity to be used as a source of new opportunities, help empower national Olympic committees, and create conditions for the development of youth on the international sports stage.
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani succeeded Indian representative Randhir Singh as president of the OCA, who resigned due to health reasons.
Delegates from national Olympic committees from various Asian countries attended the General Assembly, including the Secretary General of the NOC of Turkmenistan, Atu Akmammedov, and the Chairman of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports, Allaberdi Saparov.
