“We are activating the testing of new crop varieties, focusing on those that are resistant to drought and high temperatures. These varieties are planted in experimental plots, where we study their response to conditions of moisture deficiency or high temperatures,” Idrisov noted.
He also added that the same type of plant can vary significantly depending on the frequency of watering: three to four waterings during the growing season yield one set of results, while one to two yield completely different ones.
Last year, oilseed crops brought from the USA were tested, including the "Montana" variety. They showed good results, and this year it is planned to increase the areas allocated for these crops.
Currently, over 300 different seeds and seedlings are being tested in the republic, including high-yielding varieties of winter crops obtained under a contract with the Russian Lukyanovsky Institute.
Additionally, work is underway to adapt varieties to the country's climatic conditions, prepare and train young specialists in the field of breeding, as well as promote the use of certified seeds.
“The use of quality certified seeds is one of the main factors contributing to high yields. We insist that farmers choose proven seeds, rather than any available on the market,” Idrisov emphasized.
Furthermore, modern irrigation systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation are being implemented. Experience from the last two to three years has shown that these methods can increase yields by 1.5 to 2 times. At agri-dialogues, farmers confirmed the effectiveness of drip irrigation: the best yield results were achieved by those who used this method.
