In Uzbekistan, officials are launching an extensive program to improve the environmental situation in Tashkent. The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change has approved a list of 87 industrial facilities that have been recognized as energy-intensive and posing an ecological threat. These enterprises will be gradually relocated outside the capital. The relocation process involves not only physical transfer but also a complete modernization of production capacities in accordance with international environmental standards.
The first to be relocated is the "Uztvortsvetmet" plant, located in the Yangihayat district. This enterprise uses outdated equipment manufactured in the 1970s and falls into category I in terms of environmental hazard level. By decision of a special commission, it will be moved to the free economic zone of the Jizzakh region. It is expected that replacing old smelting furnaces with modern installations will reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 227 tons per year.
It is worth noting that strict measures have already been applied to the plant: in October, it was fined more than 18 billion sums as compensation for the environmental damage caused. Part of this money will be used to upgrade the production infrastructure under favorable conditions. Similar measures have also been applied to the Tashkent Pipe Plant and the local branch of "Vtorchermet".
These actions are a continuation of the policy aimed at reducing the negative impact of industry on large cities. We remind you that since last year, a ban has been imposed on launching new productions related to cement, asbestos, leather processing, as well as metallurgy and chemical industries of classes I and II of danger in administrative centers of Uzbekistan, unless they are equipped with modern high-efficiency filtration systems.
