Kyrgyzstan's exports fell by 43.5 percent, foreign trade by 11.2 percent
In the 11 months of 2025, the volume of foreign trade in Kyrgyzstan amounted to $14 billion 19.4 million. According to data from the National Statistical Committee, this is 11.2% less than in the same period of 2024. A slowdown in the decline is observed, as the decrease after 10 months was 9.6%.

Decrease in Export Supplies

The most significant factor affecting the negative dynamics was the sharp decline in export supplies, which amounted to 43.5%. During the specified period, the export volume totaled only $2 billion 591.6 million.

Imports to Kyrgyzstan increased slightly by 0.5%, reaching $11 billion 427.8 million.

The country continues to remain heavily dependent on imports: external supplies account for 81.5% of the total trade turnover.

Factors Contributing to the Decline in Exports

Throughout 2025, the government of Kyrgyzstan repeatedly imposed restrictions on the export of certain goods, including scrap and agricultural animals. Restrictions were also introduced on the import of some goods, which negatively impacted the volume of foreign trade, especially exports.

According to National Statistics data, Kyrgyzstan reduced exports of live animals, footwear, waste, as well as copper and ferrous scrap.

Since the beginning of 2026, the government has already imposed a ban on the export of waste paper and cardboard, which will be in effect for six months. Additionally, there are plans to extend restrictions on the export of scrap and waste of ferrous metals. The draft resolution has been submitted for public discussion.

Possibly, a six-month ban on the export of limestone-shelly rock will also be introduced. This has also been submitted for public discussion. The main goal is to prevent uncontrolled exports of important mineral raw materials, preserve the resource base, and ensure supply stability for the domestic market.

Trade with the EAEU

In the 11 months of 2025, trade turnover with EAEU countries amounted to $4 billion 933 million, which is 1.3% more than in 2024. However, there is also an imbalance here:

The largest share of trade within the union came from Russia (64.1%) and Kazakhstan (34.3%). Overall, EAEU countries account for 35.2% of the total volume of Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade.
