The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan has initiated an extension of the temporary ban on the export of scrap and waste of ferrous metals. This draft document is currently being discussed by the public.

According to the proposed draft resolution, it is planned to extend the ban for another six months. This measure affects goods classified under code 7204 of the EAEU Customs Tariff, including scrap, waste of ferrous metals, and chargeable ingots intended for melting.

There are five major processing enterprises operating in Kyrgyzstan, which together are capable of processing about 490 thousand tons of ferrous metals per year. In order to support the metallurgical industry, the government previously imposed export customs duties on scrap and waste of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. However, as stated in the justification, these measures did not lead to a significant reduction in export volumes.

The developers emphasize that the reintroduction of the ban will help meet the high domestic demand for quality secondary scrap metal.
