In Russia, migrants with debts may not have their work permits extended: a new initiative
In Russia, a new bill is being discussed that may affect migrants with debts. According to the initiative, foreigners who do not comply with court decisions, including those related to debts, may be denied the extension or issuance of a work permit. This was reported by Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy, and Veterans Affairs.

Nilov noted that it is necessary to create a mechanism that allows for the denial of permits to migrants who are chronic debtors. If a foreigner has a court ruling regarding a debt but does not pay it off, this will be grounds for refusal. The bill is expected to be submitted to the State Duma during the spring session after the New Year holidays.

According to the committee head, this measure will serve as an incentive for migrants to settle their debts.

Earlier, Nilov also mentioned that any cases of willful non-compliance with Russian court decisions could serve as grounds for the annulment of a work permit.
