Kyrgyzstan continues to maintain close trade relations with Tajikistan, which remains one of its key partners. This was reported by the director of the Center for Development and Promotion of Exports "Kyrgyz Export" under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Urmat Takirov, in an interview on the radio.

In 2013, the volume of mutual trade between the countries reached an impressive $185 million, indicating significant potential for increasing supplies.

Takirov noted that an important step in this direction was the resolution of border issues. Currently, the delimitation of the border has been completed, and work on demarcation is ongoing. This circumstance, in his opinion, is critically important for trade, as border closures complicate logistics and lead to increased costs.

After the state visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Bishkek last year, several agreements were signed, and relevant agencies were instructed to intensify their activities in 2025.

In March, a delegation from Kyrgyzstan visited Dushanbe, where it held meetings with representatives of relevant ministries. In April, a business mission took place, involving both entrepreneurs and representatives of state enterprises from Kyrgyzstan. The delegation visited Khujand and the Sughd region, where meetings were held with local authorities, chambers of commerce, and businessmen. Market needs were discussed, including food and industrial products, he noted.

The center's director added that negotiations continued in Dushanbe with representatives of the ministries of agriculture, economy, and industry, as well as other agencies. Similar work was carried out in the Khatlon region. The main goal of this mission was to study the real potential for bilateral cooperation.

In light of the upcoming state visit of President Sadyr Japarov to Tajikistan, work plans were revised. An international textile exhibition was held in Dushanbe, where a separate pavilion was allocated for the Kyrgyz side. Initially, the participation of 25 companies was planned.

Later, it was decided to additionally showcase industrial products from Kyrgyzstan, leading to the organization of two exhibitions: textile and industrial. The industrial exhibition featured trucks, aviation equipment, processed products, coal, glass, cement, construction materials, and food products. Five companies participated in the textile exhibition, while 50 took part in the industrial exhibition.

Also, as part of the visit, a business forum was held, gathering 115 Kyrgyz companies and about 200 entrepreneurs in total, representing the fields of industry, processing, tourism, and services.

According to Takirov, during the state visits, the task was set to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $500 million. Currently, negotiations are ongoing regarding the establishment of an intergovernmental council that will facilitate further development of cooperation between the two countries.
