Albania: opposition deputies clashed with police in parliament

Leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha commented on the situation, stating: “There cannot be a parliament with those who steal and run away,” emphasizing the need for law enforcement.
Opposition deputies are demanding access to the official indictment against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. The Special Prosecutor's Office for the Fight Against Corruption and Organized Crime has sent a request to parliament for approval of her arrest, with a vote scheduled for Friday.

Belinda Balluku, the former Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, who is a close ally of Prime Minister Rama, is suspected of involvement in opaque deals benefiting companies engaged in major infrastructure projects in Tirana, including the construction of a tunnel and a ring road.

At the parliamentary session last month, she rejected the accusations, stating that they are “slander and lies,” and expressed her willingness to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
