On January 21, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic approved Resolution No. 17, concerning the designation of a government body responsible for the safe storage and disposal of outdated pesticides, as well as other waste containing hazardous chemicals.

This document has been adopted with the aim of protecting the health of citizens and the environment from the negative impact of persistent organic pollutants. It is aimed at improving the efficiency of hazardous waste management and fulfilling commitments under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision has been designated as the responsible authority for these processes, tasked with organizing the safe storage and disposal of outdated pesticides and toxic waste, such as persistent organic pollutants, mercury, and lead.

Additionally, the ministry has been instructed to attract investments from international donors for the disposal of outdated pesticides and the reclamation of contaminated areas.

The implementation of this resolution will be carried out within the approved staffing levels of the Ministry of Natural Resources, using funds from the republican budget and other legal sources of financing.
