In Kyrgyzstan, a prosecutor's office specializing in environmental protection will soon be established. This was announced by the Attorney General Maksatbek Asanaliev during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, in response to questions from Deputy Gulya Kozhokulova.

Gulya Kozhokulova emphasized that environmental protection issues remain extremely important. She noted that the country's president is actively involved in ecological initiatives, including the cleanup of Lake Issyk-Kul and visits to natural parks. Additionally, activists and ecologists continue to work on environmental issues.

“However, the Ministry of Nature is mainly engaged in monitoring, while critical issues such as access to clean water, the condition of Lake Issyk-Kul, and air pollution remain unresolved. I want to draw attention to the fact that the previous leadership was solely focused on monitoring,” she stated, adding that the children's camp "Zhanil" on Issyk-Kul was transferred to the Ministry of Nature, raising doubts about the legality of these actions. Kozhokulova proposed to restore the environmental prosecutor's office to improve oversight in the field of ecology.

Attorney General Asanaliev expressed support for this initiative and reported that the president allocated 30 new positions for the formation of this structure. A decision is currently being prepared to create a prosecutor's office that will operate in both the south and the north of the country, as it did previously.

He also noted that the new prosecutor's office will focus on four key areas:

    1. Monitoring the use of mineral resources.

    2. Legality of water resource use and protection of water bodies.

    3. Condition of tailings storage facilities.

    4. Compliance with legality in specially protected natural areas.

“We hope to establish this prosecutor's office by the end of this week, if we can manage it after the report,” Asanaliev added.

Deputy Kozhokulova highlighted the need to strengthen the functions of the Ministry of Nature and conduct a comprehensive review of its activities, including hunting licensing and the distribution of international grants for environmental projects.
