At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Attorney General Maksat Asanaliev announced plans to restore the environmental prosecutor's office in Kyrgyzstan.

This information was in response to a question from Deputy Guli Kozhokulova, who emphasized the importance of environmental protection and the need to reinstate this office, as it existed in the past.

Asanaliev noted that a decision on the resumption of the prosecutor's office will be made in the near future.

“The environmental prosecutor's office was abolished for a number of reasons. I support the deputy's position. Recently, I discussed this issue with the president, and he also supported the initiative, agreeing to allocate 30 additional jobs. We plan to organize the activities of the prosecutor's office both in the north and the south of the country,” he added.

According to the Attorney General, the work of this structure will cover four main areas.

“The first area is subsoil use, the second is legality in the field of water use and the use of water resources. There have been cases where licenses for geological exploration were issued on glaciers. The third area is related to the condition of tailings storage facilities, and the fourth concerns the legality of the use of natural and specially protected areas,” Asanaliev explained.

Guli Kozhokulova also noted that currently many environmental issues are being addressed with the direct involvement of the president.

“In addition, some bloggers, such as Panaev, play an active role. The Ministry of Nature is mainly engaged in monitoring problems rather than solving them. There are many issues on the agenda, such as ensuring clean drinking water, preserving Lake Issyk-Kul, and dealing with smog problems. Therefore, the creation of the environmental prosecutor's office is extremely important,” she concluded.
