During a briefing, the Russian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Sergey Vakunov, reported significant progress in the field of education between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

He emphasized that education remains one of the priority areas of joint work. One of the key projects is the construction of nine new general education schools in Kyrgyzstan, funded by the Russian Federation. This project is referred to as "presidential," as its launch took place with the participation of the presidents of both countries.

According to the diplomat, this project aims to reduce the burden on Kyrgyzstan's educational system in the context of a growing population and number of students. Each school will accommodate 1,224 students, and education will be conducted according to Russian educational standards, taking local specifics into account.

The schools will not only be built with the help of Russia but will also be provided with funding for their ongoing operation, including teachers' salaries. Initially, three schools are planned to be opened in Bishkek, Karakol, and Batken by September 1, 2027, and subsequently, similar institutions will appear in other regions.

In addition, support for Kyrgyz schools with textbooks in the Russian language and literature continues. Within the framework of the 26th intergovernmental commission between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, 651,000 adapted textbooks were delivered. This work will continue.

The ambassador cited the initiative to create a unified educational space, proposed by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and supported by Vladimir Putin, as the basis for further cooperation in the educational sphere. The operator of this project is the ANO "Eurasia."

As for higher education, there are currently about 11,000 students from Kyrgyzstan studying at Russian universities, of which 5,400 are receiving education funded by the Russian budget. In 2025, grants for talented Kyrgyz youth were introduced, covering travel, accommodation, and medical insurance expenses.

The ambassador also noted the modernization of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) as part of a flagship project in higher education. A recent meeting of the board of trustees approved new development programs for the university.

The Russian side allocated funds for the construction of a new KRSU campus, which will accommodate 15,000 students. Kyrgyzstan provided a 30-hectare land plot for this project. A memorandum and intergovernmental decisions have already been formalized, and their ratification by the parliaments of both countries is currently awaited.
