The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan has announced the start of a nationwide campaign titled "Be Responsible!", aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old.
As part of this initiative, the ministry encourages men to visit primary healthcare facilities, such as family medicine centers and family doctor groups, for preventive examinations.
In 2025, during this campaign, more than 973 thousand men across the country underwent screening for non-communicable diseases.
Among those examined, 119.6 thousand men (which is 12 percent) were found to have cases of elevated blood pressure. Additionally, 49.6 thousand men (5 percent) were at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, and about 60.8 thousand (6 percent) were at high risk of developing diabetes.
It is important to note that in 2025, 15.4 thousand men were newly registered with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7.4 thousand with a diagnosis of diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases claimed the lives of 16.6 thousand people among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan.
This campaign was first launched in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by Switzerland, and has since been conducted annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
- Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) include chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors include unhealthy diets, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and insufficient physical activity.
