In Kyrgyzstan, the health month 'Be Responsible!' for men is starting

In Kyrgyzstan, a nationwide campaign "Be Responsible!" is launching, aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As part of this health month, men are strongly encouraged to visit primary healthcare facilities in their place of residence (Family Medicine Centers, General Practice Centers, Family Doctor Groups, and Health Posts) for preventive medical check-ups.

According to last year's campaign, over 973,000 men underwent screening for non-communicable diseases across the country. Elevated blood pressure was detected in 119,600 men (12%), while 49,600 men (5%) were at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, about 60,800 men (6%) were at high risk of developing diabetes.

In 2025, 15,388 people were registered for the first time with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7,364 with a diagnosis of diabetes. Also, in 2025, cardiovascular diseases were the cause of 16,644 deaths among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan.

This initiative was first implemented in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by Switzerland, and has since been conducted annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) include chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, oncological, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors include unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol abuse, and insufficient physical activity.

The project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by the Swiss government, aims to improve the health and overall well-being of citizens by ensuring equal access to quality primary healthcare services and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The initiative covers the entire country.
