Meirim Kavazova is of Turkish nationality, raised in Kyrgyzstan, and fluent in the Kyrgyz language.
A Turmush correspondent conducted an interview with her.
Meerim was born in 2004 in the village of Suluu-Maymak, located in the Manas district of the Talas region.
“My parents and their ancestors are Turks; we are descendants of those who were deported in 1944 during Stalin's era. The founders of our village, Suluu-Maymak, remained here to live. I studied in a rural school for the first three grades, then our family moved to the village of Talas, where I graduated from school. I found studying easy; all subjects were at the level of 'fives' (the highest grade). I actively participated in Olympiads, read the epic 'Manas,' and took part in the 'Manas Taanuu' program, reaching the republican stage in 2019-2021,” she shared.
After completing her studies, Meerim worked for a year and then married a young man from Turkey. They already have two daughters. However, her life is not limited to family responsibilities: even as a daughter-in-law, she represented her village at various events, actively participated in language festivals, and received certificates for her achievements. “I speak Turkish, Kyrgyz, and Russian,” she noted.
Meerim talked about how she managed to master the Kyrgyz language and its significance in her life.
“People often ask me how I learned the Kyrgyz language. In fact, I didn’t study it; I grew up with it. Since I was born and raised in Kyrgyzstan, this language became as native to me. At school, among friends, and in everyday life, I communicated in Kyrgyz, absorbing the culture from childhood. Therefore, speaking this language is completely natural for me,” she said.
She also discussed the similarities and differences between Kyrgyz and Turkish cultures.
“I feel like a connecting link between the two cultures. There are many commonalities in the traditions of both peoples, such as hospitality and respect for elders. The differences enrich us. I am close to both Kyrgyz celebrations and the tradition of serving meat, as well as the sacred evening tea gatherings in Turkish families. I try to combine the best moments of both cultures,” Meerim noted.
She also emphasized that her fate and roots are closely tied to the Turkic world. “I married a person of my nationality, and now we are building our life in Kyrgyzstan. I am a loving mother of two children. In our family, we adhere to Turkish traditions but also value Kyrgyz values. I want my children to receive a decent upbringing, respecting both cultures,” she added.
M. Kavazova talked about her current activities and future plans.
“My main goal at the moment is to maintain harmony in the family and provide my children with a decent upbringing.
But I do not intend to limit myself to just the role of a housewife; I am interested in working in modern fields. I have a passion for creating quality content for social media and blogging, where I share my life experiences that unite two cultures.
In the future, I plan to develop my blog, share useful information, and implement personal projects. It is important for me to constantly grow and learn new things.
I also dream of starting a family business or engaging in activities that benefit society. The main thing is not to forget my roots and live a dignified life, wherever I may be,” she concluded.
