In Bishkek, the anniversary of the end of the Afghan events was celebrated
Yesterday, February 15, the Ata-Turk Park in Bishkek gathered many people; the atmosphere was both crowded and quiet. A mourning rally was held at the memorial for internationalist soldiers in honor of the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.

Veterans, widows of those who did not return from the war, officers of the Ministry of Defense, and high-ranking officials of the city were present at the event. Among them were the mayor of Bishkek, Aybek Junushaliev, Deputy Minister of Defense Almazbek Kulmurzaev, Colonel General Abdygul Chotbaev, and representatives of the Russian embassy.

Although the official part of the event was brief, it was filled with significant moments. The Deputy Minister of Defense announced gratitude expressed to the members of the "Republican Council of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan" by the decision of the head of the Cabinet of Ministers. Veterans were also provided with financial support in the amount of 250,000 soms from the reserve fund.

The rally concluded with the laying of wreaths at the monument. Hundreds of carnations were placed at its base, symbolizing the memory of the decade-long war that claimed the lives of 15,000 Soviet soldiers.

This date holds special significance for Kyrgyzstan. A total of 7,141 citizens of our country participated in the Afghan conflict. Not all of them returned home, and those who survived the horrors of war remained loyal to their brotherhood. About 250 Kyrgyzstanis were awarded orders and medals for their displayed heroism. Their feat continues to live in the memory of the people and annually brings people together at the memorial in Ata-Turk Park.
